Unless we get fusion power soon, we will never transition away from fossil fuels – just as we have never met a carbon emissions reduction target since the 1990s (that is, we never have).
Renewable energy is growing, but so is global demand for energy – faster than the growth in renewables. Renewable energy itself is new and flawed. For example, we are just starting to see the downside of EVs – from lithium mine eco-disasters to failing Salmon runs. Politicians want to make us think the party can go on forever – they'll just hook us up to some new drug. Pick your poison. I say better the devil we know.
