As Mike Drolet reports, the tragedy is raising questions about how police pursuits should be balanced against public safety.

History was made in the House of Commons after Speaker Greg Fergus expelled Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for refusing to withdraw a statement calling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “wacko.” David Akin looks at how the Tories are doubling down instead of backing down, how that remark compares to other tense moments in previous Parliaments and whether Fergus can restore order to the House.

McGill University is asking Montreal police for help to remove pro-Palestinian protesters from an encampment on its campus. Mike Armstrong explains how police are reacting to the request and how lawyers have gone to the Quebec Superior Court hoping to ban protests within 100 metres of the school.

Both Israel and Hamas are mulling over a ceasefire proposal, which includes the release of some of the most vulnerable Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, as well as a 40-day pause in the fighting in Gaza. As Redmond Shannon explains, regardless of a deal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still determined to invade Rafah.

  1. Hello: What a good newscast! Most evenings I'm able to watch this channel while trying to stay informed. Additionally, I wouldn't mind hearing what the fellow from the Sumas First Nation would say when it comes to there being a possibility of different understandings of what land ownership is. I'm not sure that the word, "own," that he used in a case of a headstone, conveyed precisely what he was trying to say (?) Surely the party who most often is to decide what happens to land is the party that developed it the most, making it profitable and supporting anyone living on it? (Could you please consider making a trip to Thompson Rivers University and giving a public talk about the important topic of where or when First Nations people have jurisdiction? I don't know about it and want to find out.) But that lil' rock formation is very sweet! Wishes are extended to your ancestors, sir, and I'm sorry we didn't rescue them in time. ?-Miss Renee K. 2. Durham Police has a helicopter so that they can follow from a distance, and take up the chase again once it is not as dangerous. Question is, how far back was the police? If they were nearly out of sight then nothing anyone can do about how the driver of the van behaved….

  3. Wow. and to make it worse if caught they would likely give him some type of menial sentence if anything at all. When will the laws/s start to work for the common citizens? What the heck was this cop thinking? Wow

  4. Very poor judgement on the police and probably should lose there jobs. But also very poor judgement on our law courts as well if a person is dangerous keep them locked up in jail and robberys won't happen with repeat offender's

  5. Why is our reaction overwhelmingly…to blame the police? Blame the crazy criminal…he is the one responsible for all of these deaths. An officer trying to catch some crazy f^%$ so they can lock him away far away from us is not our enemy. The result was really tragic but it never happens if the crime isn't committed to begin with so the fault is clear.

  6. Why didn't the police radio ahead instead of pursuit ? It's illegal for police to drive westbound in eastbound lanes especially in such heavy traffic ! Two wrong's don't make a right ! Death's might have been avoided if police didn't panic the robbers ! This was not handled well by Durham's finest !???? Please speak up fellow Canadians ! ?FREE FREE FREE FREE PALESTINE?

  7. I wonder why the report on the stone at the native burial ground was saying this will affect the rights of native people all over the world? It's not like there hasn't been native burial grounds protected in the past, right? So what's so different about this?

  8. I support Pierre 100%. Why isn't J.T the crime minister in prison already? He has broken the law half a dozen times, is involved with a foreign organization World Economic Forum. He has committed Treason against the citizens and country. Where is the Law and accountability? Justin has to go before Canada can repair all the damage done by the liberals!! Usually its Justine the Whacko that storms out of parliament when he is called on his mistakes or injustices.

  9. I believe all this recent illegal immigration is Putin's hybrid warfare strategy to economically strain unfriendly nation's resources and citizens. If that is the case, its working.

  10. Unbelievable Poilevere was kicked out, and unprecedented that all his party members walked out of the mayhem in the House of Commons. I predict in the future there will be a smackdown, or catfight, of sorts that will make international headlines. ?

  11. Cops think the life of a baby and grandparents are not worth anything. The sum of money is more important. Wonder if they think their familybis worth killing them over a few bucks
