Modi condemns “deliberate attack” at Hindu temple in Canada as 3 charged

Three people have now been charged and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a statement on X condemning demonstrations under investigation for alleged “acts of unlawfulness” that first began outside a Hindu temple in Ontario on Sunday.

“I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada,” Modi’s post said.

According to Peel Regional Police on Monday morning, three people were arrested and charged over the incident with other alleged acts still under investigation.

Video circulating on X appeared to show people using flagpoles to strike others.

  1. Anyone not a Canadian Citizen that's involved in violence in this incident needs to be immediately deported. What a bunch of losers – we came to this country to be free from religious oppression. Now that we opened the flood gates it's been nothing but foolishness. If you choose Canada than you are Canadian. Don't play your games for the country you came from on Canadian soil. Work to improve Canada, not our competitors.

  2. Sending love and support to Canadian Indians. So terrifying, there are little kids, families that are going to temple. My kids school celebration Diwali in Victoria BC. Adults need to raise their kids to appreciate other cultures. Canada is not a melting pot. It's a place people come to be safe and practice their own beliefs. Lets work to keep it that way.
