news just in this morning British tennis Superstar Andy Murray has withdrawn from the men’s singles competition at Wimbledon the 37-year-old Murray had surgery on his back 10 days ago and he had said that he was trying to get better in time to play but now he’s made the decision to pull out of the singles tournament Ed kimman joins me now for more so Ed I mean this is a beloved player uh in the UK in this tournament um he he was planning to retire could we have seen the last of him in the singles game uh I think that may very well be the case here it’s going to depend on what happens to him over the next couple of weeks because his original plan was to play singles and doubles at Wimbledon and singles and doubles at the Olympics uh he will still play doubles with his brother at Wimbledon that’s a really good sign I think he’s going to still aim to go out at the Olympics in both singles and doubles but again it’s going to depend I think on how he feels as he plays doubles at Wimbledon it’s a real tough situation for Andy Murray but the good news for him is because he’s going to play doubles with his brother he’s going to get a chance to go on Center Court and he’s going to get a chance to get unbelievable cheers from the crowd the entire country is going to Rally around this moment as you said he is Beloved the man who won Wimbledon For the First Time by a British player since 1936 seven time semi-finalist there the list goes on and on with Andy Murray he’s a legend of the game and he’s still going to get his moment and I think that’s the most important thing thing yeah and and part of his Legend is the fact that he is such a fighter and you can really see that on the court so no doubt as you said he’s going to get some big cheers uh during the Olympics uh let’s turn to the Canadians some big wins um including from Bianca andrescu with her uh winning through the first round do we have a shot at this tournament the Canadians I’m not going to go that far but what I am going to say is we’re seeing some really positive signs it’s been a tough year for Canadian but I think that’s changing big time right now Bianca andrescu out 10 months with a back injury of her own uh she’s come back only recently at the French Open and just uh in the last couple of weeks making it all the way to a final of a warm-up tournament for Wimbledon and yesterday was utterly dominant against her Romanian opponent uh I think she’s looking really dangerous I don’t think anyone of the top lers wants to face her she’ll have Lindon OVA next an up andc coming check player that’ll be a tough test but I like her chances there and it’s a similar story with Dennis shavala at Wimbledon last year he had to shut down his entire season with a knee injury uh slowly working his way back really struggled but a few weeks ago at the French Open he started to show some signs and yesterday he was a big Underdog against Nicholas Jerry a Chilean player ranked in the top 20 uh but Dennis shavala was great I mean he was one-way traffic in that one so no problem at all for those two Canadians yesterday and they’re both looking good to maybe make a little bit of noise in the next couple weeks at WI yeah Canadian tennis success seems to come in waves so let’s hope that that there’s a wave coming for for Wimbledon this year and more Canadians hitting the grasscourt today who should we be looking out for uh Felix o Alim will be playing a little bit of a question mark around him he had to pull out of his Wimbledon warm-up event because he had a bit of a hip strain uh we have no word on how good or he’s feeling uh but I think it was precautionary so I’ve got my fingers crossed that he’s 100% And if so former quarterfinalist at Wimbledon up into the top 15 now he’s looking good so I I think if he’s healthy good chance for him Lea Fernandez talk about warm-up tournaments and doing well in them well she’s coming off of making the final just a week ago and she has been showing signs building and building and she’s heavily favored in her match today so I really like her to move through and finally there’s young Marin ausich 19 years old she’s the next big star in Canadian tennis uh she had no problem getting through qualifier this is her grand slam debut watch out for this 19-year-old from Mrs S Ontario I think she’s got a really bright future in the sport well win or lose they always bring such great energy to the court so we’re cheering we’re cheering for them no matter what thank you so much for that Ed thanks
