“Marie-Luna Langlois Escandon left her home in Québec seeking English proficiency but found something much more valuable – a love for Yellowknife. Three years later, this 16-year-old École Sir John Franklin High School student is not only showcasing Colombian culture at the Multicultural Festival but also preparing to represent the NWT at Miss Teenage Canada in Toronto.

A Unique Journey to Representation

Escandon’s journey to the Miss Teenage Canada pageant is more than just a quest for the crown. It symbolizes a young girl’s pursuit of dreams, cultural representation, and breaking barriers. Escandon’s pride in representing Yellowknife and the NWT in a national competition is not just about outer beauty but also about showcasing the rich diversity and culture that the North has to offer.

Challenges and Opportunities Await

The road to the crown is filled with challenges, from photoshoots to talent showcases. While last year’s winner had her own impressive achievements, Escandon is determined to make her mark and bring attention to not just her beauty but also her story and culture.

A Proud Mother’s Perspective

Haudry Escandon, Marie-Luna’s mother, reflects on her daughter’s journey with pride and hope. She sees this opportunity not just as a beauty pageant but as a platform to showcase the beauty and culture of the North. Through Marie-Luna’s participation, Haudry hopes to inspire more young women from the territory to step out, represent their roots, and make their voices heard.

As Marie-Luna prepares to take on the national stage, she embodies the spirit of resilience, representation, and cultural pride. Her journey is a reminder that beauty can come in many forms, and sometimes, it’s the stories behind the crown that truly shine brightest.”
