Driveway paving, home repair scam sees victims out $40K: Montreal-area police - Montreal

“Scam Alert: Montreal Man Allegedly Defrauds Homeowners of Over $40,000
Montreal-area residents are on high alert as authorities search for potential victims of a man accused of swindling homeowners out of more than $40,000. Patrice Lamer, 42, was recently arrested in connection with the reported scam that targeted residents on Montreal’s south shore.

The Alleged Scam
According to Longueuil police, Lamer went door to door offering driveway paving and other home repair services. Claiming to work with the company Gestion Multi Pro, he provided quotes for paving services and later expanded his offerings to include painting, balcony repair, and paving stone services. Residents were asked to provide deposits ranging from $450 to $3,700, payable in cash. However, in many cases, the work was either never completed or only partially done.

Rising Concerns and Official Response
The situation came to light when four residents from Brossard and Longueuil reported the alleged fraud to authorities. Subsequent investigations revealed more victims, leading to five arrest warrants being issued for Lamer. Longueuil police believe that there could be up to 20 cases linked to Lamer across five cities in 2024. In response to the escalating concerns, authorities are urging any potential victims to contact them at 450-463-7211.

Conclusion
As the investigation unfolds and more victims come forward, it is essential for residents in the Montreal area to remain vigilant against potential scams. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of exercising caution when dealing with door-to-door service providers. By staying informed and reporting any suspicious activities, communities can work together to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a world where trust is easily broken, it is up to us to protect ourselves and our neighbors from falling prey to fraudulent schemes. Let this be a call to action for all of us to stay alert and look out for one another in the face of opportunistic individuals seeking to take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.”
