VIDEO: How Langley celebrated Canada Day

“From plush unicorns to dirt bikes, the citizenship ceremony at Fort Langley on Canada Day was filled with diverse reasons for choosing Canada as home. Katalaya Fischer, snuggled with her toys, witnessed her father Marcel become a Canadian amongst 39 others. As Marcel raised his hand to take the oath, he shared his love for the freedom and outdoor adventures that drew him from Germany to Canada.

The Best Country in the World

Presiding over the ceremony, Brian Minter praised Canada as the “best country in the world,” sparking applause from the audience. The event was graced by family, friends, and dignitaries, including MP Tako van Popta, MLA Megan Dykeman, and Langley Township Mayor Eric Woodward, who welcomed the new citizens one by one.

A Celebration of Diversity and Unity

Amidst live music and cute animals from Aldor Acres farm, hundreds of people gathered at the historic Fort Langley to witness the ceremony. The B.C. Farm Museum offered various attractions, from butter-making to blacksmithing, keeping the visitors engaged and entertained.

Giving Back on Canada Day

In a pop-up park at Glover Road and Mary Avenue, Langley Township firefighters hosted their sixth annual barbecue to raise funds for the BC burn fund. The event not only raised money for burn survivors but also provided a safe and accessible space for kids dealing with burn trauma. It was a chance for the community to come together and support a worthy cause.

In Conclusion

As Canada welcomed new citizens and celebrated its diversity, Canada Day at Fort Langley was a reminder of the values that make this country great – freedom, unity, and giving back to those in need. Let’s continue to embrace different perspectives and keep building a better Canada for generations to come.”
