Canada Day celebrations kick off across country

“Today, Canadians across the country are coming together to celebrate Canada Day, honoring our great nation on its 157th birthday. From east to west and north to south, festivities are planned in every corner of this vast land, bringing communities together in a spirit of unity and pride.

The Capital Celebrations:

In Ottawa, the heart of our nation, the celebrations will be centered around LeBreton Flats Park and Parliament Hill. Due to ongoing construction on Parliament Hill, this year’s main stage has been relocated to LeBreton Flats, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of our nation in the face of challenges. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, along with Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge, will be representing the government at the main ceremony, which will feature musical performances by talented artists such as Bedouin Soundclash and Marie-Mai.

A Spectacular Flypast:

One of the highlights of this year’s Canada Day celebrations will be a ceremonial flypast by the Royal Canadian Air Force, featuring a stunning display of dozens of aircraft. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the RCAF, adding an extra layer of significance to this impressive display of military prowess.

Honoring Our Heroes:

In Newfoundland and Labrador, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Mary Simon will be participating in ceremonies to honor the entombment of Newfoundland’s Unknown Soldier, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform. This solemn occasion serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted respect and gratitude we hold for those who have given their lives in service to our country.

CBC Specials:

CBC is also joining in the Canada Day celebrations with two special broadcasts – a radio tribute to a Canadian musical icon and an evening show aimed at bringing music lovers from coast to coast together in harmony. These programs are a fitting tribute to the rich cultural tapestry of our nation, showcasing the diverse talents and voices that make Canada truly unique.

As we come together to celebrate Canada Day, let us reflect on the journey that has brought us to this moment, the challenges we have overcome, and the opportunities that lie ahead. Let us unite in a spirit of inclusivity and understanding, embracing the diversity that defines us as a nation. Happy Canada Day to all, and may our future be as bright and promising as the land we proudly call home.”
