"Canada Day long weekend is here, and with the holiday festivities also come changes and closures in services across Waterloo Region. From transit schedules to waste collection and facility closures, here’s what you need to know to navigate the long weekend smoothly.

Transit and Waste Collection Updates

The Grand River Transit (GRT) will be operating on a reduced holiday schedule during the Canada Day long weekend. MobilityPLUS services will also be available, with any time changes detailed on the GRT website. While curbside garbage collection remains unaffected, residents are reminded to have their bags out by 7 a.m. on Monday for regular collection. Waste drop-off locations in Cambridge and Waterloo for residential waste will be closed until July 2.

Facility Closures and Operating Hours

On Canada Day, all regional administration offices, public libraries, recreational centers, and public pools will be closed. However, regional museums such as the Ken Seiling and Schneider Haus will be open but with limited operating hours between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., respectively.
