Global National: June 28, 2024 | Biden hopes to turn page after “disastrous” debate

[Music] on this Friday night us Democrats panicked the alarming concerns over what’s being called President Joe Biden’s debate disaster everything we have to do with uh look if what it could mean for his fight for the White House then the questions about Canada’s leader oh will you stay on as leader the politicians past and present saying Justin Trudeau needs to go Iran’s election the reformist who’s setting himself apart and could become president plus medical first it looks very good so we’re super happy the Breakthrough brain implant changing the life of this teenager with epilepsy global national reporting tonight Carolyn Jarvis good evening and thanks for joining us US President Joe Biden is trying to turn the page today after what many are calling a disastrous night on one of the biggest and most important stages in the world in the first debate of the 2024 presidential race Joe Biden hoped to make the case that his opponent Donald Trump was unfit to return to the white house instead he reignited questions over his own Fitness for a second term in office his answers were marked with stumbles and awkward pauses in what some are calling the worst debate performance in US history have a listen everything we have to do with uh look if we finally beat Medicare thank you President Biden president Trump he right he did beat Medicare he beat it to death despite Trump’s felony conviction and repeated lies the focus today is on the sitting president Jackson prco has our top story tonight with his campaign thrust into crisis Joe Biden tried to tame the p I don’t de debate as well as I used to but I know what I do know I know how to tell the truth in North Carolina the 81-year-old president was fiery and energetic acknowledging only briefly His stunning failure the night before when you get knocked down you get back up during 90 excruciating minutes with Donald Trump the idea that they’re going to I’m not I prop opposing that everybody they pay the millionaires pay 1% Biden appeared raspy frail and at times incoherent the the total initiative relative to what we can do with more border patrol and more Asylum officers president Trump I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence that disastrous performance has legitimized questions about his ability to serve another term let alone win one the worst of any major Party candidate since debate started with Kennedy Nixon in 1960 that’s how bad it was the stumbles overshadowed his opponent’s torrent of lies he’s willing to as we say rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month and kill the baby Democrats saw the Trump they knew and the Biden they feared I’m worried I’m really worried it was tragic loyalists are rattled with open calls for Biden to drop out of the race before it’s too late it was a challenging night challenging night while Donald Trump is seizing the moment the question every voter should be asking themselves today is not whether Joe Biden can survive a 90minut debate performance but whether America can survive four more years of crooked Joe Biden in the White [Music] House concern about Biden’s age is nothing new but for the first time the knives are out just weeks before the party’s nominating convention it’s probably hopeless uh unless he drops out himself there is no way to remove him Biden has signaled he’s not going anywhere he is now a man with no room for error speculation is already rampant about who could step in if Biden steps away with months until election day the president’s team believes there’s plenty of time to quell questions about his Fitness for office they’re even suggesting he will still debate Trump for a second time in SE September Carolyn Jackson prco in Washington thank you we’re joined Now by irhad manangi a Canadian author and educator who lives in New York irad what do you make of Biden’s performance last night the stumbles the pauses for electors who are still four months away from going to the polls Carolyn let me Begin by clarifying I speak not as a partisan but as a teacher of leadership and in that context I never thought I’d say this that the extended fight between Biden and Trump about who’s a better golfer is only the second most embarrassing thing that happened last night the most embarrassing of course is that President Biden could not manage to finish a decent sentence his prolonged silences as you pointed out happened very early on in the debate and what that managed to do is reinforce this impression this assumption that was already seeded in the minds of many many Americans that this man for as lovely as he may be for as decent as he may be uh is not uh cognitively fit to be the president of the United States for the next four years it’s the reinforcing of that impression that made all the difference because it happened so early on in the debate so you’ve said this is a moment of Reckoning for Democrats what is the party have to do now yeah well and I really do mean Reckoning because you know the Democratic party has been saying for years that democracy itself is on the ballot well if that’s the case then they really do need to get serious about finding a nominee to replace Biden and by the way there are no shortage of younger more Dynamic Democrats to choose from it’s it’s an embarrassment of riches actually uh and it doesn’t have to be a humiliation of Biden either uh though your Republicans will try to make it that way Biden will actually be celebrated for making the decision to bow out and clear the path for the Next Generation because everybody will know that takes humility which is in very short supply these days and that’s also an extremely strong contrast with the Republican party and its nominee so all told it’ll be a winwin for the Democrats if Biden does uh you know allow for a brand new nominee to take his place can we turn to Trump’s performance just for a second you know we’ve got on live TV a convicted felon who is making up truths as he goes is he a better alternative oh not at all not if we’re talking about leadership I mean uh you know I refer to him as a misleader given all the lies not a leader uh but it has to be acknowledged and and understood that he has Millions upon millions of followers but here’s the other thing that needs to be understood it’s not so much because those followers love him it’s actually because those followers hate the other side more than they love their own side that’s how toxic The Divide has become in these United States it is you know it is it is driven by hatred of the other not by love of our own your Shad Mani thank you for time and insights tonight thank you the US Supreme Court will deliver its highly anticipated ruling Monday over whether Trump is immune to criminal prosecution for his actions during his time in office in the meantime the court delivered some major rulings today including one which involves charges against January 6th riers in a 63 decision the Court ruled in favor of alleged Rider Joseph Fischer throwing out the Justice Department’s obstruction charge against him the ruling could impact hundreds of other January 6th cases including one against Trump the Supreme Court also ruled 6 to3 that American cities have the right to enforce bans on homeless people camping outside in public spaces the decision sides with the Oregon City of Grants Pass over a lawsuit by three homeless people which argued the city’s penalties were unconstitutional this reverses a lower Court ruling the Supreme Court’s conservative majority opinion said the Constitution does not author authoriz federal judges to dictate this nation’s homelessness policy back in Canada there are doubts over our leaders future after Trudeau’s liberals lost a stronghold to the conservatives in a by-election earlier this week one liberal backbencher is indicating he’s had enough New Brunswick MP Wayne Long wrote an open letter to the liberal caucus calling for Trudeau’s resignation David Aken looks at who’s calling for Trudeau to stand aside and who’s standing by him our incredible incredible hardest working individual that we know the honorable Justice a party fundraiser with a wounded leader doing his best to pump up the troops we have Pierre PF and the conservatives who’ve decided that the way they get to win is to make people even angrier but whatever the conservatives are doing it worked Monday in the former liberal stronghold of Toronto St Paul’s and 4 days later Trudeau still has not a single question from a reporter about that conservative Triumph Mr Prime Minister following the loss in Toronto will you stay on his opposition leader Pierre POV has not made himself available to reporters either but he’s on time off with his family this week Trudeau on the other hand filled his week with several photo ops and party fundraisers and left it to his colleagues to speak about his future I think I speak for uh Manitoba caucus that we are 100% supportive of the Prime Minister going forward as our leader the prime minister is committed to Leading us into the next election and he has our support the Prime Minister uh is the person that is the best place to take the fight to Pier POV but some no longer share that opinion the Prime Minister has a legacy to be proud of but it’s time for new ideas new energy and a new leader McKenna said there is too much at stake in this election especially on the economy and climate former BC Premier Christy Clark came to the same conclusion that Trudeau must go I want the liberal party that I used to vote for to come back she told the Toronto Star that’s what as for Trudeau’s caucus the first public sign of dissent has appeared St John New bronzo C Wayne Long who had already said that he was not running again is circulating a letter to other liberal MPS saying it’s time for new leadership and New Direction David Aken Global News Ottawa well public sentiment will play a key role in tau’s political future and a new poll done exclusively for global news shows the majority of Canadians aren’t feeling good about the state of the country that’s coming up later on global Iranians head to the polls coming up the presidential candidate who’s been called a potential GameChanger just a few weeks after experiencing a deadly Heatwave people in India’s capital woke up to this torrential rain inundated the city of 20 million Deli received more rain in one day than it normally gets in the entire month the extreme weather is causing major traffic issues and at the International Airport made a section of roof Buckle killing one person there’s a major presidential election taking place in Iran today the snap vote was called after the sudden death of the former president in a helicopter crash last month what makes this selection different is that a little known reformist candidate one who’s calling for closer relations with the West actually has a chance of winning but that doesn’t mean the Hardline Iranian regime is going anywhere Redmond Shannon reports the most powerful man in Iran voting for the second most powerful man in Iran Ayatollah Ki casts his vote for president after the death of Ibrahim RI in May’s helicopter crash the supreme leader said the longevity and stability of the Islamic Republic depends on participation that was something lacking from recent elections which saw turnouts below 50% part apathy part boycott that all candidates are preapproved by the regime three of the four candidates are seen as conservatives like RI one is more moderate backed by the reformist faction mud pesan said he wants friendly relations with all nations except Israel the heart surgeon and former Health Minister also said there should be no inhuman Behavior towards women a reference to the Crackdown against those protesting the mandatory wearing of head scarves following the killing of Masa Amon in police custody two years ago I think the best way of putting the presidency is somebody who who seeks to persuade the Supreme media and other bodies to take uh important decisions Iran analyst cush ranbar dami says alongside the economy internet speed and access to blocked apps like Instagram are also election issues Iran has its fair share of small businesses and individual people that were um applying their trade on Instagram that was filtered and that caused a lot of problems If no candidate gets 50% of the vote there will be a runoff next Friday Redmond channan Global News London sinking national pride ahead why so many Canadians say the country is in need of a boost tonight marks the start of the Canada dayong weekend but a new poll done exclusively for global news shows many Canadians are not necessarily in the mood to celebrate national pride has plummeted Tia isri breaks down the details and what’s behind the low morale preparations are underway in Ottawa for the country’s biggest Canada Day celebration but even the best party plan would have a hard time changing the national mood I think it’s going to take a long time to get back where we were before an ipsos poll done for Global News found many Canadians think the country needs fixing after 9 years of this prime minister everything is broken everything’s broken Everything feels broken Everything feels broken 70% of Canadians pulled agree Canada is broken and the younger you are the more likely it is you’ll believe that 78% of Canadians between 18 and 34 share that view he’s capturing a mood it’s not something that Pierre POV has created Pier PV is going around saying that Canada’s broken he’s doing that for his own narrow interests you double pev has dominated the polls for more than a year and this week his party breached the walls of a liberal Fortress winning the Toronto St Paul’s byelection there is a lot of um discomfort uh even anger certainly frustration in in not just Canada but a number of countries right now and the primary reason for that is inflation in Montreal this year’s Canada Day Parade was cancelled because of red tape and a lack of funding to ipsos it’s just one more example contributing to an overwhelming sense of pessimism in the country driven in large part by economic uncertainty I think the government is time for a change new ideas new uh new way of of doing stuff right now for others there’s still lots to celebrate there’s always conflict and there’s always things that will be going on in the world that we don’t necessarily have as much control over as we’d like but um I love this country which is about to Mark its 157th birthday For Better or Worse teria isri Global News Montreal medical miracle next a new device that could transform the lives of people living with [Music] epilepsy Princess Anne is back home tonight after 5 days in hospital King Charles’s sister was treated for a head injury and concussion that doctors say were consistent with being struck by a horse’s is traumatic and and frightening his mother says every moment of orin’s life has been overshadowed by epilepsy his childhood held captive by Relentless seizures up to 300 times a day it’s robbed him of all of his childhood so far his doctors say the device stimulates the thalamus intercepting the brain’s electrical signals to reduce seizures by up to 80% back here it’s hoped the results will help determine whether it’s an effective treatment for epilepsy if we’re able to bring this treatment in and make it available to more children that really has an opportunity to revolutionize their lives and to allow them to um to get their childhood back a similar procedure has been used in Canada a Toronto teen was the first person in this country to get a responsive neuros stimulator last year doctors here say the UK technology is promising this is a different type of neuromodulation or a different type of brain stimulator for epilepsy a deep brain stimulator which is what’s being described in the story in the UK is actually not implanted in the specific part of the brain that causes seizures in that specific individual but it’s implanted in a part of the brain called the thalamus it looks very good so we’re super happy orin’s mother says it’s been 7 months since the operation and his life has been transformed yeah Orin is starting to reemerge I feel like I’m getting my child back On tonight’s top story: U.S. President Joe Biden is trying to turn the page after what many are calling a “disastrous” debate performance. In the first debate of the 2024 presidential race, Biden had hoped to make the case that his opponent Trump was “unfit” to return to the White House. Instead, he reignited questions about his own fitness for a second term in office. Jackson Proskow reports.

Back in Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is dodging questions about the embarrassing loss of a Liberal stronghold to the Conservatives. At least one Liberal backbencher is now saying he’s had enough – penning an open letter to the Liberal caucus calling for Trudeau’s resignation. David Akin looks at who else is calling for Trudeau to stand aside and who is standing by him.

Meanwhile, Iranians headed to the polls Friday in a snap election after the sudden death of the former president Ebrahim Raisi. What makes this election different is that a little-known reformist candidate, who is calling for closer relations with the West, actually has a chance at winning. But that doesn’t mean the hardline Iranian regime is going anywhere. Redmond Shannon explains.

Tonight marks the start of the Canada Day long weekend. But a new poll done exclusively for Global News shows many Canadians are not in the mood for celebrating as national pride has plummeted. Touria Izri breaks down the numbers and looks at what’s behind the low morale.

A British teenager has made medical history. Oran Knowlson was once plagued by three hundred seizures a day, but that number has dropped dramatically thanks to a revolutionary brain implant. Neetu Garcha reports.

  1. And this debate only reinforces my question of why American politicians seem to be all above the age of 65… I mean, yeah, having a young and naive leader like our illustrious, Sparkle-socks PM is not exactly a bonus, but it's better than having a pensioner

  2. What lied woman? Tell us what lies Trump said? Hunters laptop was protected by you the media. Joey has lied his whole life. If Ashley’s diary got out instead of the FBI you media protected and saved him from being exposed for raping her in the showers Trump would’ve won had voters known this. It’s called election interference you puppet mouth piece for the elites

    Trump 2024

  3. Beware of all religions. “This is what the Lord [God] says: Deal Justly and fairly, rescue the victim from his oppressor, do not ill-treat or do violence to the alien, the orphan or the widow, do not shed innocent blood in this place.” – (The Prophet Jeremiah 22: 3) – So never worship and pray in the way of the many false prophets who lead all religions.

“But when you pray, go into a room by yourself, and shut the door. Pray to your Father who is there in the secret place; and your Father who sees what is secret will reward you openly.

In your prayers do not go babbling on like the heathen, who imagine that the more they say the more likely they are to be heard. Do not imitate them. Your Father knows what your needs are before you ask him.

This is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Your kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven,

Give us today our daily bread,

Forgive us the wrong we have done, as we have forgiven those who have wronged us.

And do not bring us to the test, but save us from the evil one.

For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever.

    Amen.

For if you forgive others the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, then the wrongs you have done will not be forgiven by your Father.” – (The Prophet and Messiah Jesus of Nazareth at Matthew 6: 6-15) –

“Pass no judgement, and you will not be judged. For as you judge others, so you will yourselves be judged, and whatever measure you deal out to others will be dealt back to you.” – (at Matthew 7: 1-2) –

“Truly I tell you, if anyone obeys my teaching he shall never know what it is to die.” – (at John 8: 51) –

“Always treat others as you would like them to treat you: that is the Law and the Prophets.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.” – (Matthew 7: 12-14) –

“I am the gate; anyone who comes into the fold through me shall be safe. He shall go in and out and shall find pasturage.

The thief comes only to steal, to kill, to destroy; I have come that men may have life, and may have it in all its fullness.” – (John 10: 9-10) –

“Beware of false prophets, men who come to you dressed up as sheep while underneath they are savage wolves. You will recognize them by the fruits they bear.” – (Matthew 7: 15-16) –

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” – (Matthew 7: 21) –

“I am the resurrection and I am life. If a man has faith in me, even though he dies, he shall come to life; and no one who is alive and has faith shall ever die.” – (John 11: 25-26) –

“I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world” – (John 12: 47) –

“Whoever then will acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge him before my Father in heaven; and whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.” – (Matthew 10: 32-34) –

“I am the way; I am the truth and I am life; no one comes to the Father except by me. If you knew me you would know my Father too.” – (John 14: 6-7) –

“An expert in the law, [a leading religious Pharisee] tested him with this question: ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. That is the greatest commandment. It comes first. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. Everything in the Law and the Prophets hangs on these two commandments.’” – (Matthew 22: 35-40) –

“There is no greater love than this, that a man should lay down his life for his friends.” – (John 15: 13) –

“Do not call any man on earth ‘father’ ; for you have one Father and he is in heaven. Nor must you be called ‘teacher’ ; you have one Teacher, the Messiah.’” – (Matthew 23: 9-10) –

“Take care that no one misleads you: For many will come claiming my name…” – (Matthew 24: 4) –

“Many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many; and as lawlessness spreads, men’s love for one another will grow cold. But the man who holds out to the end will be saved. ” – (Matthew 24: 11-13) –

“Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be assured, I am with you always, to the end of time.” – (Matthew 28: 20) –

Yours, in true Spirit and in our one given prayer, 2gointruth, on Saturday the 29th of June 2024: – (Please read Matthew 5: 14-16) – Where every minute (of both day and night) can be a new beginning for any one of us. Let it always be you. Pray to God often, as prescribed above, before it is too late.

  4. If Canada wasn't a democracy, Trudeau would make a fine dicatator. Canadians should be glad that their politcial system is not like the sewage tank that the US is. If Canadians choose Trudeau in the next election, they have only themselves to blame.
