Canada’s 2023 wildfires created more CO2 than planes

30

Canada’s record-breaking Wildfire season last year released a devastating amount of carbon dioxide the fires put more than 3 billion tons of CO2 into the air that according to the World Resources Institute and the University of Maryland that’s almost four times the emissions produced by planes in a year and about the same as 647 million cars the biggest thing that we can do today um is drastically reduce our fossil fuel emissions the primary thing fueling the increase in wildfires in Canada is climate change uh so yeah basically trying to do what we can to reduce our our impact in that way

Catastrophic Canadian warming-fueled wildfires last year pumped more heat-trapping carbon dioxide into the air than India did by burning fossil fuels, setting ablaze an area of forest larger than West Virginia, new research found. #shorts
