All her life, Ronaldo, a six-foot-long Brazilian rainbow boa snake was thought to be male. That was until the 13-year-old reptile gave birth to 14 snakelets on June 20, despite not having contact with any other snakes for the past nine years.

This so-called “virgin birth,” is known as parthenogenesis – a natural form of asexual reproduction where embryos develop without fertilization.

Ronaldo was brought to the college from the RSPCA in 2015 and was declared male by a vet at the time.

Her babies will be rehomed when “they are in the correct health and handling situation.”
