A house, occupied by a local family for more than 50 years, collapsed into the Blue Earth River near a flooded dam in Minnesota on Tuesday. Concerns have risen over the condition of the 114-year-old Rapidan Dam as heavy rain, erosion, and severe flooding continue to affect southern Minnesota.

Captain Paul Barta of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office explained that debris lodged in the dam led to water flow restrictions.

“Dam has been on free flow for the last few years. With that obstruction, the water needed to find somewhere to go and ultimately created a new path on the west side of the dam and kind of undermined that side of the structure,” he said.

Community members gathered along the river bank to view the scene of the house toppling into the river.

  1. "Partially failed"? LOL LOL LOL Folks, that is a complete failure. A dam is supposed to hold back the river, the river is not supposed to go around it. Dams either work, or they don't. This failure has nothing to do with climate change nonsense. The earth has always had cycles of droughts and extreme rain from time to time. Nothing new under the sun. It doesn't help that the dam was over a hundred years old.

  2. "Blue Earth County". Ironic considering 70 years of Big Oil lies and bought and sold politicians means the Earth will eventually have a LOT more blue on its surface one day.
