Calgary water main on track to be repaired by July 5: Mayor Jyoti Gondek

the timeline to repair the feeder M seems to be on track and we are still shooting for that July 5th completion date I can report that yesterday our water consumption levels were up again we used 467 million lers and while that is below the threshold we’re trying to stay lower so we can ensure that we have an emergency supply of water available in case it’s needed yesterday we had another very good example of why that Supply is so important the Calgary Fire Department battled a fire in the community of preswick last night thankfully there are no injuries being reported and Crews were able to manage the blaze our ability to use less water for our daily routine has really resulted in Folks at the Calgary Fire Department being able to access water when they need it for critical critical situations like the one last night we are making sure that non-potable water from the river is available for all of you to access safely so we’re offering this to the public in the same way that we have offered it for commercial and construction uses so in addition to both the Ogden Bo boat launch and Baker park there are now four more locations where you can bring your containers to get non-potable water in the city and those four locations are the Spy Hill landfill the Genesis Center Ambrose University and Bishop oburn high school you can go to any of these six locations between 7:00 in the morning and 7:00 in the evening with your your containers and as a reminder this is nonpotable water so just like the water that comes out of your rain barrel it is not fit for drinking or preparing any type of food it is to be used for watering your plants and Watering your Gardens

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said on Monday that the broken water main is on track to be repaired by July 5.

She added that while water usage remained below the maximum threshold over the weekend, Gondek urged residents to use less water because it can be required to put out fires – such as the blaze extinguished over the weekend.

“We know that we can conserve water best when we understand that we’re in this together,” Gondek said.

Gondek additionally mentioned additional sites for non-portable river water, stressing this water isn’t for consumption, but for watering gardens.
