well summer arrives a little later today and already the heat wave is here at least for parts of Eastern Canada for more on this we are joined by Dave Phillips environment cada senior climatologist Dave thanks as always for joining us okay Roger nice to be with you this is uh quite the start to the summer have we seen heat waves this early before or is this officially a heat wave I guess too yeah it is I mean anything above two days in a row with temperatures above 30 uh would qualify uh humid EX can tell you also that you’re in the heat wave but no question about it uh you just go out and and and feel the weather from Windsor Ontario to Windsor Nova to Windsor Newland and you’re you’re seeing these incredibly warm temperatures high heat high humidity we have weather uh warnings out for several provinces all of New Brunswick Nova Scotia pei and certainly a good chunk of Ontario and Quebec where millions of people live I think we’ve ended the warnings heat warnings in in say in central Northern Ontario towards Sudbury and Timmons but but certainly it’s going to be here for another couple of days and and in some areas Roger we’re seeing these heat above 30 is going to last maybe seven eight days I know in Windsor Ontario in some of the other major centers four five days and even Roger when it cools off we get below 30 the temperature still stays elevated in Toronto for example it will be you know later Sunday Monday that we see temperatures that will get back to to normal so people are suffering under this it’s it’s early and the thing that worries people is my gosh this summer hasn’t even started and we haven’t reached the dog days of summer which don’t come until another month from now so quite possibly um uh this is just the first of what will be a a long hot summer and that’s what the models seem to suggest and any indications for the early start this uh early hot weather yeah I mean I think that certainly over all of Canada I mean we Ser certainly people the West are saying come on bring it here I mean they have they’ve had kind of cool and wet kind of conditions uh but we certainly think that nobody’s going to be left out in the cold this particular um uh uh summer uh we think come Labor day we’ll just say here in Ontario Quebec and Eastern Canada boy it’s been a hot summer and we’ve had many bouts of these these kind of long bouts of very warm temperatures you know it’s it’s it’s amazing when I look at the numbers I’m just shocked places like ba Nova Scotia a b New Brunswick I mean had a temperature of 30 38 degrees for a high the other day minimum temperatures at night have been uh above 25 26 degrees and then hum humidity my gosh 45 46 with you know eight 10 hours in a row so it is quite excruciating but certainly in the in the west I think their their summer kind of weather is coming be a little bit more patient maybe another week or 10 days and then they’ll see the uh uh uh the warm up and I’m sure that westerners would be complaining about the heat and humidity right now they’re looking for it and they would like to feel it but hey it’s not nice when you actually have to feel it yeah brings all the Canadians together complaining about the weather Dave thank you as always sir okay Roger bye-bye Dave Phillips is environment Canada senior climatologist

Environment Canada Senior Climatologist Dave Phillips says the heat warning will continue to remain in Eastern Canada for a few more days.
