speaking of airport if you have tickets on WestJet for the next few days you’re going to have to watch the flight board because travel headaches within that company have already begun 700 WestJet mechanics and Engineers could walk off the job as early as Thursday night so that’s tomorrow night and in anticipation Scott the company is already cancelling dozens of flights yeah 40 flights today and yesterday stranding up to 6,500 passengers and it’s hard to imagine how West can keep planes in the air if mechanics are off the job Thursday so this could only just be a preamble as to more serious flight delays and cancellations after the Thursday um uh uh lockout 670 aircraft workers uh uh this is primarily mechanics and Engineers are set to walk off the job as of Thursday night and this is due to a contract dispute between WestJet and them uh there’s the Union is called the aircraft manufacturers a fraternal organization this is a mechanics group they’re saying that wages and Outsourcing are two of the big issues as far as them uh wanting to not vote for the contract offered to them WestJet for their part saying that they’ve put their best offer on the table that these mechanics would be the best paid in the industry and they’re asking the federal labor minister to intervene in this now this is a time of big restructuring for WestJet owned by Onyx Corp of course and they just avoided a strike with their Regional carrier pilots just a few weeks ago so This Is 40 flights already uh cancelled as of as of today and yesterday that’s 6 6,500 so the recommendation here is for anyone flying with WestJet better phone ahead before going to the airport but this could be a bumpy ride this is really a signal that these two sides are far apart and it doesn’t look like there’s any kind of negotiations right now
