WestJet cancels flights amid potential strike

if you have tickets on WestJet for the next few days you’re going to have to watch the flight board because travel headaches within that company have already begun 700 WestJet mechanics and Engineers could walk off the job as early as Thursday nights and in anticipation the company is already cancelling dozens of flights 40 flights today and yesterday stranding up to 6,500 passengers and it’s hard to imagine how West can keep planes in the air if mechanics are off the job Thursday this could only just be a preamble as to more serious is flight delays and cancellations 670 aircraft workers this is primarily mechanics and Engineers are set to walk off the jobs and this is due to a contract dispute between WestJet and them the Union is called the aircraft manufacturers a fraternal organization they’re saying that wages and Outsourcing are two of the big issues is WestJet for their part saying that theyve put their best offer on the table that these mechanics would be the best paid in the industry and they’re asking the federal labor minister to intervene in this

Members of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association voted to serve the WestJet Group with a 72-hour strike notice on Monday. As of Wednesday, the airline has canceled about 40 flights in anticipation of the possible strike.
