Calgary water main break: Stampede CEO joins mayor, emergency officials for Day 12 update | LIVE

37

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and local officials are expected to be joined by Calgary Stampede and Tourism Calgary representatives at Monday’s afternoon water main update.

In an earlier update, Gondek said that repairs on five problem areas of a major water main that burst 12 days ago has begun. Gondek said engineers and hydrologists used a robot last week to complete an inspection of the pipe that burst, which discovered more “hot spots” in need of repair. Officials have estimated that this process could take three to five weeks.

The city declared a state of local emergency Saturday after the other problems were detected, and repeated pleas for Calgary’s 1.6 million residents and those in surrounding communities to limit their water use by 25 per cent to prevent the taps from running dry.

Gondek has said she’s grateful for support offered during the crisis from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
