a Canadian first to Mark today a small flight school in British Columbia is offering the first ever paid trip aboard an electric aircraft the plane is a pipistrel velis Electro it was developed in Europe and it’s priced at about a quar of a million dollar it runs on two 200 lb batteries that supply enough juice for about 50 minutes of flying time perfect for a flight school that takes students up for short hops over the city so today a flight instructor is taking up a student who will pay $20 for Canada’s first commercial electric flight Pilots say the plane behaves much like its gas powerered counterparts in the air with a few notable advantages they’re much quieter there’s no emissions um long term we hope that they’re they’re cheaper to operate disadvantages right now flying time is limited to under an hour and the two people on board can’t weigh more than about 400 lb combined
A small flight school on Vancouver Island has completed Canada’s first paid flight in an electric aircraft.
The plane, owned by Sealand Flight, took off Friday from the Campbell River airport with an instructor and student onboard. The student paid $20 for the honour, and got to take a turn at the controls high above the city. #shorts
