Canadian Blood Services putting out call for donors for Canada Day clinic in Shelburne

“Barrie Community Urgently Needed for Blood Donations Ahead of Canada Day Celebration

As Canada Day festivities draw near, Canadian Blood Services is issuing a plea for donations to replenish their supply before the upcoming long weekend. The Barrie branch is reaching out to the local community, asking individuals to step forward, roll up their sleeves, and potentially save a life. With the convenience of eligibility questionnaires that can now be completed from the comfort of one’s home, the process has never been easier.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Donors

Cheryl Russell, a dedicated community development manager, expressed the organization’s gratitude towards donors, emphasizing the tremendous impact their contributions make. This week serves as a special opportunity for Canadian Blood Services to acknowledge the generosity of donors and highlight the crucial role they play in supporting those in need.

Mayor Nuttall’s First Donation Attempt

In a heartening show of solidarity, Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall made plans to donate blood for the first time, alongside members of the CTV News Barrie team. Born in England during an era when donation restrictions were in place due to the ‘mad cow’ outbreak, Nuttall recently became eligible to donate after the regulations were lifted. Despite facing some unforeseen complications during his initial donation attempt, Nuttall remains committed to giving back to the community and assisting those requiring blood transfusions.

Opportunity for Contribution in Shelburne

With Canada Day fast approaching, a mobile clinic is scheduled to take place in Shelburne on Mon. July 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centre Dufferin Rec Complex. However, the clinic has encountered a low turnout, with only 5 percent of available slots currently booked. Canadian Blood Services urges individuals to familiarize themselves with eligibility criteria, as regulations are subject to change, ensuring that potential donors meet the necessary requirements before scheduling an appointment.

A Call to Action

As the nation prepares to celebrate Canada Day with joy and festivities, let us not forget the significance of lending a helping hand to those in need. By donating blood, individuals have the power to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, offering hope, healing, and a chance at survival. Canadian Blood Services’ mission relies on the compassion and altruism of the community, demonstrating that together, we can create positive change and support those facing medical challenges.

In this season of giving and gratitude, let us unite in the spirit of generosity and compassion, extending a helping hand to those in need. Your contribution, no matter how small, has the potential to save a life and bring comfort to individuals undergoing medical treatments. As we celebrate Canada Day, may we also celebrate the gift of giving, embracing the opportunity to make a lasting impact and showcase the true essence of community solidarity. Book your appointment today and join us in the noble cause of giving the gift of life.”
