I would be concerned if this guy touched my laptop……all of these emails are BACKED UP! and the Laptop is BACKED UP! His excuse doesn't pass the sniff test…….people dont backup emails to a PST file unless they are trying to off load them from the server then delete them.
Pst files do get corrupted…however at his level of mgmt his emails would be duplicated on a email server secured in a central secure environmentally protected server without exception!!!!
There is always an archive. Maybe deleted by the person whose account it is, but that person doesnt have access to the archives. My users have no ability to delete anything in our archive.

Dude. I worked for a 200 person company and we had instantaneous, redundant backups of all e-mail communications. If I told a government official that I couldn’t produce the required e-mail messages, I would’ve been fined and jailed.
