36

If you’re feeling burnt out at work, you’re far from alone.

A new survey by HR consulting firm Robert Half released on Wednesday found more than four in 10 (42 per cent) of Canadian professionals reported feeling burn out at work, with Millennials (ages 27 to 42) the generation that reported feeling it the most.

Generation Z (Ages 18 to 26) closely followed with 51 per cent reporting burnout, followed by Generation X (ages 43 to 58) at 32 per cent, and baby boomers (ages 59 and above) at 24 per cent.

Global’s Naomi Barghiel spoke to experts about how to fight those feelings of burnout.

  1. This is what happens when economically-illiterate people keep pushing for wage increases. You get a raise, but jobs are cut so now you have to do 2 person's workload.

  2. It's probably not the amount of work that is the issue, it's that fact that you are overworked AND you still can't get ahead because everything costs so much. Peoples are working harder than they ever have before in the last 60 years, and there is zero reward. People can barely afford to put food on the table, so there is no surprise when you work so hard and don't have anything positive that comes from all that hard work, and the only result is burnout… yup.

Wages and salaries have simply not kept up to general inflation. If you made $60k before, it was livable. Now the livable wage is $100k, but those that made $60k 3 years ago are only making $61-$65k now. The standard of living is now crushed in Canada.

Most employees have now become completely disengaged from work and are 'quietly quitting', because why work hard when it doesn't help you at all. Plus these companies taking advantage of people, throwing new tasks on them without offering them more financial compensation for it. Happens in every company.

We are close to a workers revolt. People aren't even afraid to get fired anymore because half of the population is close to living out of their vehicles anyway.

  3. I'm sure it has nothing to do with our free for all wide open borders or the influx of students here with fraudulent ipaperwork and ntentions burdening everything they come in contact with while consuming resources that rightful Canadians have paid for, deserve and should be first in line for. Naw must be climate change or something…

  4. The younger gen is burnt out bc even if we work ourselves to death we will never be able to have a good life like our parents. We can never afford a house, a vacation or anything resembling a life so what’s the point????

  5. No wonder people are fatigued as companies hire one person to do the job of 5 people. A designer needs to know coding, project management, analytics and the list goes on. Job descriptions are messed up.
