Arrest made almost 2 years after Ontario mom fatally shot outside home

“Unsolved mysteries can haunt communities for years, leaving families devastated and seeking justice. In a tragic turn of events, after almost two years of uncertainty, police have finally made an arrest in the fatal shooting of an Alliston, Ont., mom of three.

The Incident:
Ontario Provincial Police revealed that Sibel Duzguner (née Yirtici), 38, met a tragic end on the morning of August 26, 2022. As she was preparing to leave for work at 6:30 a.m. on Kidd Crescent in Alliston, an unknown assailant approached her. Without warning, gunshots shattered the peaceful morning, leaving Sibel fatally injured. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she could not be saved.

The Arrest:
It was only last Thursday when members of the Nottawasaga OPP major crime unit took Ahmed Duzguner, 51, of New Tecumseth, into custody, charging him with first-degree murder. However, the nature of the relationship between the victim and the suspect remains undisclosed, adding further complexity to an already tragic situation.

The Aftermath:
Sibel’s journey to Canada from Turkiye in 2003 was filled with aspirations and dreams. She worked tirelessly to build a life for herself, eventually becoming a proud homeowner and car owner. Tragically, her life was cut short, leaving behind her children in Canada and her family in Turkiye, including her father and six siblings.

The Call for Justice:
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits answers and closure. The impact of this senseless act reverberates not only within Sibel’s family but also throughout the Alliston community. The road to justice may be long and challenging, but it is a necessary step to honor Sibel’s memory and ensure that such tragedies are not repeated.

In a society where violence leaves scars that may never fully heal, each step towards accountability is a step towards healing. As we reflect on this heartbreaking incident, let us stand united in seeking justice for Sibel Duzguner and all those who have been unjustly harmed. May her spirit find peace, and may her memory inspire change for a safer, more compassionate world.”
