Lionel Messi’s absence disappointed fans as he missed the much-anticipated match between the hometown Whitecaps and Inter Miami at B.C. Place in Vancouver.
Despite Messi’s absence, the crowd set an all-time attendance record, with over 51,000 fans packing the stadium. Inter Miami cited Major League Soccer’s grueling travel schedule for the absence of Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.
As Jeff Semple reports, fans unhappy with this explanation called for compensation and chanted, “Where is Messi?”

I appreciate the opportunity to challenge my own beliefs and expand my horizons in this enriching environment.?
"Messy"
how is this anything like expecting to see taylor swift perform at her concert? Driven by consumerism people overpaid to watch the whitecaps vs inter miami. The two teams played, no sympathy from me
So the rest of the team is just crap??
Am I the only one who brought ticket in Hongkong and then in Vancouver?
Never buy these tickets when they don’t even respect fans , it is not organized sports, it is organized scam
I mean pretty sure white caps are the culprits here. No way its Messi’s fault tho
All these people are not messi fans. They are just people with money who want to go for fun. Real fans know hr wouldnt do that. Normal people would even think before being impolsive and buying the tickets that quickly. He is close to retirement. He will get hurt. He was already hurt when the aranged the match. It sucka but it is how it is. Blame barcalona. All the people who want a refund are dumb and have never been to a soccer match before
Lol, I love seeing soccer fans getting screwed.?? I don't hate the sport necessarily, but the fans…
Messi has high morale.
Here is what Messi did in Hong Kong ??:
– Pre-match, he went out taking photos with fans who had cancer.
– He avoided the pre-match conference when John Lee was there.
– He refused to smile or play in the match.
– During half-time, Hong Kong officials proposed to him making a speech and giving him an award. He said NO.
– After the match, he went around the player lineup, avoiding handshakes with John Lee and Chinese officials.
Three days later, in Japan, he joked with his teammates and happily played there.
China offered him $500 million a year,
a Chinese citizenship,
a state-controlled guided tour to Xinjiang,
and a young hot mistress for a 5-year contract.
Messi refused.
– He said nothing can replace his freedom of speech.
Meh. Save up and watch Phil foden at the World Cup. Garnacho is a more exiting Argentinian to watch.
… it’s a soccer game. Not a concert. If one player is off and people turn against them. Then you’re a fan of the player not the team.
Inter Miami and David Beckham soon lose their creditability and their fan base. This is second time happened this year with Inter Miami.
In Hong Kong, the organizer agreed to refund 50% of ticket price.
People dumb enough to believe these soccer stars would show don't deserve a refund!
Why risk your most valuable star players to injury on a match that is non-consequential, in a county that is even more irrelevant to the sport as a whole…
Imagine living in Vancouver area and going to see your team, but demand a refund because the star player of the opposing team couldn’t play lol. NHL players sit out games with injuries. I went to a penguins game and was pissed that Sid was a late healthy scratch for a minor injury he had gotten the night before, did I demand a refund? No, these things happen.
Stop idolizing a guy like this. Remember guys like Ovi, who shows up to the All Star game just for the fans. Messi doesn't care about his fans, why would he even have fans?
Sometimes players get injuries. I Once paid alot of cash to see Edmonton play Montreal one of my favorite players Saku Koivu wasnt in thr line up it happens
They forgot to Mention…..whitecaps management marked up the prices >10X so that prices started at $350 for the worst seats
