“Shocking Subway Attack Sets Victim Ablaze in NYC”

**Random Attack Leaves Victim Injured**

In a disturbing turn of events, a man on a New York City subway train set a cup of liquid on fire and tossed it at a fellow rider, causing the victim’s shirt to catch on fire and leaving him with significant injuries. The incident occurred on a No. 1 train in lower Manhattan, leaving the victim, a 23-year-old man, hospitalized with burns on about a third of his body. He bravely shielded his loved ones from the burning liquid and managed to extinguish the flames by slapping himself.

“He had a cup,” the victim shared with the New York Post. “He made fire and he threw it all.” Fortunately, the suspect, a 49-year-old man, was swiftly apprehended after police tracked a stolen phone from another rider to him. While details on charges were not immediately available, authorities are taking this incident seriously and are investigating a similar attack in February.

**Concerns over Subway Safety**

The recent surge in violent incidents within the NYC subway system has left riders on edge, from a man being pushed onto the tracks in East Harlem to multiple shootings. In response to these concerns, Governor Kathy Hochul announced increased security measures, with National Guard members and additional police officers being deployed to crack down on fare evasion and enhance safety for commuters.

With millions of riders depending on the subway system daily, it is imperative to address security concerns and ensure the safety of all passengers. While such incidents may be rare, the impact on victims and the broader community is significant, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to prevent future attacks. It is a reminder that safety should always be a top priority in public transportation, and that everyone has a role in promoting a safe and secure environment for all.”
