Trudeau says Trump administration could be “lose-lose” with tariffs on Canadian goods

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau highlighted the close ties between Canada and the U.S. while visiting an international union conference in Philadelphia, Pa., on Tuesday.

According to analysts, the government has already launched a “Team Canada” charm offensive as Americans prepare for a pivotal fall election that could see former U.S. president Donald Trump return to the White House. Trudeau said in his remarks that his government knows how to make the case for a strong bilateral relationship.

“The links between the Canadian and the American economy are so deep and indeed getting deeper over the past year our trade numbers have reached higher levels than any time before,” Trudeau said. “It is to the benefit of Americans and Canadians to continue to work well together regardless of who’s in the White House.”

“We don’t have to be hypothetical about it. We can just cast our mind back to six, seven years ago when President Trump brought in two, three, two tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum,” Trudeau added. “We will be there to defend effectively against unfair or punitive tariffs on Canadians because we know it’ll be a lose-lose on both sides of the border.”

  1. Trump is on record months ago to renegotiate the auto trade industry yet Justina is going to borrow billions to make EV batteries for cars most of us can't afford or will work in our climate.
Also how are we to charge them or is Hydro One finally profitable????
Remember Ontario Hydro went bankrupt in 1999 with a 80 billion debt and half it went to Hydro One.

  2. Trudeau has to realize he is nothing on the world stage, other than a clown real leaders laugh at. Trump or whoever becomes President, It’s a safe bet you won’t be around when that time comes.

  3. Carbon tax is a great idea if its actually used to build out the green energy market and the gov / people retain royalties for the investments spent… as in we all get a cut based on actual gas consumption and money payed in… as is its flawed… top contributors are screwed and those that do not contribute much are rewarded…
