UN General assembly backs Palestinian bid to become full member

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has backed a Palestinian bid to become a full member.

The assembly adopted a resolution Friday with 143 votes in favour and nine voting against the measure, including the United States and Israel. Twenty-five other countries, including Canada, abstained.

The vote does not give the Palestinians full UN membership but simply recognizes them as qualified to join. The resolution calls on the Security Council to admit the Palestinians as a member.

In April, the U.S. cast a veto in the UN Security Council to deny Palestinians full membership, but has said that it supports a “two-state solution.”

  1. Hind Rajab was a 6-year-old girl from Gaza. In January 2024, she and her family were shelled by the Israeli army while in their car. Hind and her 15-year-old cousin, Layan Hamadeh, were the only survivors, trapped within the car. They called the Palestinian Red Cross Society, with Layan saying, 'They are shooting at us. The tank is right next to me. We're in the car, and the tank is right next to us.' The PCRS sent a team to rescue them. However, after 12 days, on February 10th, when the Israeli army withdrew from the area, Hind Rajab and her six relatives were found dead in the car, along with the two paramedics sent to rescue them, who were also found dead nearby.

  2. I guess the fact that 50 thousand people were killed by Israel in the last 6 months that many countries now want to see a Palestinian state and are speeding this statehood process, including Israel’s closest allies.

  3. The UN is evil through and through. The deep state wants all of us in every country to be ruled by a few rich families that regard us as peasants and immaterial at that.

  4. what's wrong with people, Palestine will never stop attacking Israel, what difference is this going to make? I have seen nothing since October that would lead me to believe that this is a magic wand

  5. Why did they go Oslo, why did they negotiate the full state issue for the past decades, it is clear now, they were stalking, they were paving the way for this genocide, they were manipulative or just playing because the same Very countries that abstained or opposed the full Palestinian state joined some negotiation at most of them

  6. The US has a provision in it's domestic legislation, according to the CBC report no one can comment on.
This provision would cut off all UN funding if Palestine achieves recognition of statehood.
I just learned that and uh, I think it makes me angry.
I normally do not care about the we'll X if you Y posturing, it is typically a temporal representation of Fear so I know it will pass when the capital subsides or balances and only fear remains.
This is not normal, Nazis were not normal, they upset everything and it has not subsided or balanced yet.

I am very much opposed to that US provision.
I am even sad to admit that it makes me question my entire reality.
    Canada's ally is the USA.
    And she did that.
If this is what we accept from our friends, what did we accept from our competitors?
