Ultra-processed foods: What they are, and why you may want to cut back

Ultra-processed foods, such as ready-to-eat meat, fizzy drinks and sugary cereals, are linked to a higher risk of early death, a new study has found.

So, what are ultra-processed foods? Such foods encompass a wide range of products, including packaged baked goods, candy, chips, sweetened drinks, bacon and hot dogs – items that are laden with additives, sugars and unhealthy fats and lacking in essential nutrients.

In Canada, our consumption of such foods is on the rise.

  1. Drinking Alcohol and Smoking Cigarettes are still worse than eating ultra-processed foods. Everyone has to eat they don’t have to drink booze or smoke.
