30th annual McHappy Day: Supporting B.C. families with sick children

“McHappy Day Celebrates 30 Years of Supporting Families with Sick Children in Canada

It’s that time of year again – McHappy Day is back and better than ever! This year marks the 30th anniversary of this incredible event dedicated to helping families with sick kids across Canada. On May 8th, a portion of the proceeds from all menu items sold at McDonald’s will go towards Ronald McDonald’s House Charities (RMHC) and other children’s charities.

The Impact of McHappy Day on Families

Richard Pass, CEO of Ronald McDonald House B.C. and Yukon, emphasizes the significance of McHappy Day as the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The funds raised on this day support the day-to-day operations of Ronald McDonald House, providing a home away from home for families in need. In British Columbia alone, 73 families stay at the Ronald McDonald House every night, serving over 2000 families each year.

Expanding Support for Families in Need

The impact of McHappy Day extends beyond just one day of fundraising. The funds raised help support families like the Relvas from Kelowna, who spent over 380 days at Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver while their son battled neuroblastoma. For families facing the unimaginable stress of a child’s illness, Ronald McDonald House provides comfort, support, and a sense of community.

Looking Towards the Future

As the demand for Ronald McDonald House’s services continues to grow, the need for expansion becomes apparent. The organization is currently raising capital funds to build a second house, doubling their capacity to serve more families each night. The Relvas family, now cancer-free, continues to support McHappy Day and the Ronald McDonald House, recognizing the vital role it played in their son’s recovery.

Conclusion

McHappy Day is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a celebration of hope, community, and resilience. By supporting this event, you are not only enjoying a delicious meal at McDonald’s but also making a difference in the lives of families facing unimaginable challenges. Let’s rally together to continue supporting families with sick children and spread hope and joy throughout our communities.”
