David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer and a longtime friend of former U.S. president Donald Trump, testified in Trump’s criminal hush money trial.
Pecker is the prosecution’s first witness in the trial, where Trump is accused of making hush money payments made to a former adult film star before the 2016 presidential election.
As Neetu Garcha explains, Pecker described his “catch and kill” strategy, which involved paying sources for negative stories about Trump to “take them off the market,” so they would never run.
