Russia-Ukraine: Zelenskyy, soldiers thank US House for “weighty” aid bill vote

16

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude after the U.S. House of Representatives passed an aid bill for his country in its war against Russia on Saturday. The president said the support — still to be approved by the U.S. Senate — was a “very weighty package that will be felt by our soldiers on the front lines” and that it was a “decision to protect lives.”

Near the embattled eastern town of Kupiansk, where Russian forces are pressing, some Ukrainian artillery gunners said that it will be a “180-degree turn” once the aid package is confirmed, but speculated that Ukraine might have “lost a bit less ground” if the U.S. bill had been passed sooner.

In Kyiv, some Ukrainian citizens criticized the aid for “coming late,” while others said that Ukraine doesn’t “have a lot of options” except to “keep on fighting” with the aid that the country could get.

The aid bill provides $60.84 billion to address the conflict in Ukraine, including $23 billion to replenish U.S. weapons, stocks and facilities; $26 billion for Israel, including $9.1 billion for humanitarian needs, and $8.12 billion for the Indo-Pacific, including Taiwan. The Senate is expected to pass the measure next week, sending it to Biden to sign into law.

  1. The money is being spent in the US on weapons and other things that are sent to Ukraine. Arms manufacturers and other big business make huge money. Money makes its way back to the politicians through kickbacks and campaign donations. The circle of life, and death.

  2. Someone is editing and deleting posts to steer the narrative in this comment section. I made several posts and all of them were deleted.

    My post.

The government does not send money to Ukraine. It sends money to the military industrial complex in America where it pays Americans to make American weapons and military materials to upgrade or renew old stockpiles that have been sitting in storage depos in America for decades. This frees up old stock to be sent to Ukraine to help them fight. Old stock that we would have had to pay to dispose of in a few decades anyways because it was too old to safely use. Nothing new is being sent there. The new stuff stays here and we sent them the old crap its replacing.

This aid is used as stimulus to create local jobs and boost the local economy. But what makes this better is that the aid is not free.

A lot of politicians are making it seem like pallets of cash are being sent over there, because exploiting ignorance to make the current administration look bad is good for their reelection chances, but that is not what is happening. Ukraine is going to pay back every single cent being loaned to them after the war is over, in one way or another, and they are going to pay it with interest.

This is an investment and its a really good one because the pay off is going to be enormous. It stimulates the local economy, Ukraine is paying to dispose of obsolete military supplies instead of us, they are using it to degrade Russia from a near peer to an international joke which secures Americas prominence on the world stage, and it is allowing Ukraine to establish itself as a military and economic powerhouse which owes everything to America and will have the ability to pay it back.

  3. Americans love capitalism and hate socialism so much. This is why this is Wonderful news.

Americans put this in your brain. Your tax money will get used either by your own or sent abroad. Just imagine the amount of people this money could've helped domestically. But nope. All hail capitalism.

  4. Good to see stepping up to support Ukraine who is fighting Americas war. Russia has been the main threat to America for 80+ years, now the war is being fought at no risk to American soldiers. Only the military industrial complex has gotten rich defending America using Russia as a reason to spend hundreds of billions of dollars developing weapons to defend America from Russia. American is sending all,of its obsolete weapons to Ukraine and charging new prices paid to the military industrial complex. None of the billions pledged will leave the United States so what is the problem!

  5. As Countries like USA & Canada etc.. keep helping the war will never end. And it is raising Inflation around the world. Not only people in Ukraine suffer everyone is suffering. If we stop supporting then let the chips fall and have the world inflation go back down. Unless Governments want war or Nuke war, then we are domed as a race.
