Indonesia volcano continues to spew ash as region remains on tsunami alert

Two days after a dramatic eruption from Mount Ruang which led to mass evacuations in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province, the volcano continues to shoot plumes of ash thousands of feet into the atmosphere.

The danger zone was widened and the volcanic threat level was upscaled to its highest level on Thursday when Indonesia’s volcanology centre warned that part of the volcano could collapse into the sea and trigger a tsunami.

“We remain alert and vigilant, and we also urge surrounding residents and communities to stay cautious,” Joi Bernadin Oroh, regent of the Sitaro Islands said.
