“Ubisoft Toronto, a pioneer in the gaming industry, has teamed up with Brock University to provide a groundbreaking opportunity for emerging talent. This collaboration aims to showcase the diversity within Ontario’s interactive digital media sector, paving the way for a more inclusive and vibrant gaming community.

Empowering Emerging Talent at Brock University

Under the guidance of Aaron Mauro, Brock University’s DDH Chair and Associate Professor of Digital Media, the partnership between Ubisoft Toronto and Brock University has been described as transformative. By actively engaging with students through game design reviews and industry networking events, Ubisoft Toronto is actively contributing to the growth and development of Brock students.

A Five-Year Scholarship Program

To further enhance this partnership, Ubisoft Toronto has established a five-year scholarship program worth $25,000. This program will select five fourth-year GAME students each year to receive a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of their excellence in various areas of game development, including art, music, programming, production, and leadership. The goal is to help students build a professional portfolio and kickstart their careers in the gaming industry.

A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Both DDH and Ubisoft Toronto share a common goal of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the technology and gaming sector. This scholarship program underscores their joint commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive gaming community.

Looking Towards the Future

The first set of awards will be presented in December 2024, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the collaboration between Ubisoft Toronto and Brock University. With a focus on talent development, industry engagement, and student empowerment, this partnership is set to create a ripple effect in the gaming industry.

As we witness the seeds of innovation being sown at the intersection of academia and industry, one thing is clear – the future of game development is bright, diverse, and full of possibilities. Together, Ubisoft Toronto and Brock University are paving the way for a new generation of game developers who will shape the landscape of interactive digital media.
