“$50B orgy of spending”: Poilievre mocks Trudeau for latest federal budget

24

The day after the 2024 federal budget was released, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh exchanged quips in the House of Commons on Wednesday, during the first question period since the fiscal plan was made public.

“Who pays for this latest $50 billion orgy of spending by this costly prime minister?” Poilievre asked. “We know who won’t pay — It won’t be those with trust funds that protect their millions of inheritance like the prime minister, nor the billionaires that invite him to their private Caribbean islands.”

Trudeau retaliated by saying that it was “interesting to see the lengths” to which Poilievre would go to avoid admitting that he was “choosing to stand with the ultra-wealthy against the middle class, against young Canadians.”

Meanwhile, Singh said that young people “know they’re getting ripped off” because of corporate greed, blaming it for driving up the cost of living. He also claimed that the Conservatives get angry whenever corporate greed is mentioned because it means the NDP are “taking on their masters.”

  1. We see the token tim right up front with his beard that he's growing longer because Pierre wants market to share. and having his tokens right up front. Pierre, if you put forward a budget, the rich and wealthy and land owners like yourself and your wife would not be paying a ** red scent, we would be paying for you. But this is sad and sickening that Tim Natoken is up front when Pierre ransom raves like Adolf Hitler.

  2. First, I thought media was owned by Trudeau, whats with the criticism? Second, I see MOST comments talking about affordablity. How exactly does cutting government spending change what I'm paying?

  3. I don’t allow the rage to overtake me. Everyone will pass away one day. Everyone will be held accountable for their actions. I cannot wait till he sees the deeds of his wrongdoings so he may be rewarded accordingly ??

  4. The track record since JT has been voted in is not good. He was fun as my substitute teacher, and a guest at the paintball place I worked at… Really, a fun guy. But as a long time liberal/ndp voter, I can say it's time for a change. If that change turns out to be bad, at least there was an attempt to make it better than it is now. Sheeeeesh

  5. Conservatives are upset they aren’t funnelling all our tax dollars into their accounts.
Look at Alberta where all our resources are packaged out to the lowest bidder.

  6. Corporate greed is the dumbest point I ever heard. A commercial organization is built to make money. All the employees hired are aimed to make or spend less money. You can challenge them the effort of social responsibility, but profitability? That’s dumb. The only way to reduce corporate profitability from a government is to encourage competition and reduce the entry barriers.

  7. Why don’t you stop treating each other as mortal enemies and actually work together to solve the problems in this country. It’s not a game! It’s not 4 years of fun as you denigrate the other side. Poilievre currently actually represents more than half the country. Every time you insult the Conservatives you are insulting and alienating all of the Canadians he represents. Do your jobs! Get to work for Canadians and Canada. Model the behaviour you want to see in this country for cripes sake!

  8. Jagmeet got it right! It’s corporate greed! That is driving up the cost of living, not the PM. This is not a communist country where the PM has the ultimate authority to make those decisions for market prices, houses, interest rates etc. Pollievre just spews such garbage and lies it’s disgusting how he speaks to the public like they are stupid

  9. I keep looking at that group of Liberal MPs, in hopes of finding someone who appears cognizant of the fact that this PM makes absolutely no sense, but this entire government is either clueless, or just as evil as he is. I hope Canadians are aware that this PM is intentionally seeking to destroy the Canadian economy for his own agenda.

  10. We are all tired of this brutality!!
Just give the money back !!!
Stop the taxes! Weren’t they placed as a temporary means years ago before the government got greedy? Why does the government think they can continue this fleecing of our money with no consequences?

  11. Ugh…. PP is so cringe. So is Trudeau. Neither of them really have actual solutions for the working class. JS isn’t exciting but at least he’s more apt to help the largest amount of Canadians.

    Think policies, not culture wars.
