“Rust” armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed given 18 months for role in fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins

Judge Mary Marlow Sommer on Monday sentenced “Rust” armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed to 18 months behind bars for her role in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Last year, a jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the deadly movie set shooting.

Prosecutors blamed Gutierrez-Reed for unwittingly bringing live ammunition onto the set of Rust where it was expressly prohibited and for failing to follow basic gun safety protocols. After a two-week trial, the jury deliberated for about three hours in reaching its verdict.

An involuntary manslaughter trial for actor Alec Baldwin’s alleged role in the shooting will begin in July.

Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer for “Rust” was pointing a gun at Hutchins when the revolver went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

  1. Everybody on the set were incompetent actually. Hutchins and the other person were standing on the wrong side of the camera for no good reason. If they hadn't been standing right in the worst place they couldn't have got hit. It was a series of really bad decisions by several people.
