Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will make a pharmacare announcement in Calgary on Wednesday after meeting with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
The two leaders have not met since last summer at the Calgary Stampede festival.
In February, the Alberta government said it planned to opt out of the national pharmacare program after the NDP and Liberal government announced it had reached a deal to deliver the program, a critical piece of the supply-and-confidence agreement between the two parties.
In an email to Global News, Alberta’s Health Minister said the province instead intended to obtain a full per capita share of the funding. A spokesperson said Alberta was not consulted on the program.
