In tonight’s top story: Hopes for an imminent ceasefire in Gaza suffered a major setback after Israel boycotted the latest round of peace talks. The Israeli government is reportedly refusing to attend negotiations in Cairo, until Hamas provides a list of the surviving hostages in Gaza. Earlier reports, citing U.S. officials, claimed Israel had essentially agreed to a framework for a new ceasefire deal that would see a six-week pause in fighting and the release of some Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. But as Redmond Shannon reports, with truce talks stalled, the humanitarian crisis gripping Gaza took another terrible turn.

And after the Canadian government issued fresh sanctions against Russia on Sunday, following the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny last month, Ukraine is calling for more help. The country’s most populated city, Odesa, was bombarded with yet another Russian drone strike on Saturday, leaving at least 10 dead. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested in a nightly address that if weapons from Western allies weren’t delayed, that it may have ended differently. Canada’s latest sanctions target six Russian officials connected to the punishment and death of Navalny. Abigail Bimman has the details.

Also, there is growing concern that a highly infectious and dangerous disease could be making a comeback to Canada. Cases of measles have been confirmed in both Ontario and Quebec. And some of the infections are not connected to travel or close contacts, indicating there is now community transmission. Heather Yourex-West looks at why and who is most at risk.

In the Maritimes, a Nova Scotia man is out on bail after being charged in the Bahamas in connection with allegations of sexual assault against an elderly Canadian woman with Alzheimer’s. Her family says it happened while she was vacationing with relatives. Heidi Petracek has the details.

Over in the U.S., there is swirling speculation about whether former president Donald Trump will still face trial on multiple federal criminal charges before voters head to the polls in November. Trump’s legal maneuvers have successfully thrown the court calendar into question. As Jackson Proskow reports, justice delayed could be justice denied, if the Republican candidate is re-elected.
