Oh good job what happened to your finger I had I smushed it I guess manual up onto the manual pad and then I smushed it so these are our for you programs and this partnership came to be from one day uh me and my boss we sat down with Vanessa

And we had a meeting about providing um programming that is with specialized instruction for Children and Youth who have disabilities and we just decided to start with skate for you here and we’re really excited and so far it looks like it’s turning up pretty good go go go go

We’re just hoping to provide the best kind of programming that we can for children youth with disabilities but specialized instruction and things like that so we’re just hoping that the programs will hopefully grow in the future and then we can provide more supports for families who need things

Like this do you want to try a turn on that it’s the same radius as this I started like actually like kind of doing it like 3 months ago but like when I got my skateboard it was a year ago what do you think of this

Program I think it’s uh Prett good they try to like help me while kind of do it give me things I should do you okay yeah my son’s Henry kale he’s down here at the cinema 5 skate park to take part of an inclusive lesson for children on the Spectrum neurodiverse

Program nice it’s been amazing to see him you know coming out of his shell um it’s like a club environment here he feels very comfortable sits on the couch he’s hanging out with the other skaters it’s so it’s such a you know all like a personal approach everybody is in it

Together and supporting him and uh we couldn’t be happier to be here so our students are taking um a community development class and um Vanessa had reached out to me and asked if I might have some students who would be interested in a project um that was going to modify a skateboarding program

For children to learn or people with disabilities to learn how to skateboard and so I said absolutely and had five students put up their hand and say they’d love to do that it was really really neat to come in and see the different programs that they’ve um

Created for each of the children and you can see each children is getting a an individualized program um to meet their needs it’s just skateboarding is in my opinion the hardest thing you could ever try and it’s almost like he grabed vated towards it the challenge and it’s really

Pushed him to realize that he can do anything he’s set his

Cinema 5 Skatepark has partnered with Junior Inclusion Thunder Bay and the developmental service worker program at Confederation College to offer a five-week adaptive skateboard program. It’s part of a city program called SKATE 4-U, which aims to make skateboarding in Thunder Bay more inclusive.
