Teen arrested after attempted carjackings of victim with child near Yorkdale mall - Toronto

“A 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody following two attempted carjackings near Yorkdale Mall recently. The incidents, which occurred this month, have left the community shaken and raised questions about safety and security in the area.

The First Incident: Caught on Camera

The first incident took place on Friday, Feb. 9, when officers responded to a robbery in the vicinity of Dufferin Street and Yorkdale Road around 8:30 p.m. According to reports, a group of four suspects followed a victim and a child as they left Yorkdale Mall and headed towards their car. A gun was brandished, and the victim was assaulted before managing to flee back to the mall with the child. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

The Second Incident: Deja Vu at Yorkdale

A week later, on Saturday, Feb. 17, police were called to the same area for another robbery with eerily similar circumstances. This time, three suspects approached a victim as they returned to their vehicle. The victim was once again threatened with a gun and demanded to hand over their keys. A scuffle ensued, resulting in minor injuries to the victim.

Arrest Made: Seeking Justice

Following the second incident, a 17-year-old boy was apprehended and charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offense. While this arrest brings some closure to the recent events, it also raises concerns about the motives and influences behind such crimes.

Final Thoughts: Safety and Vigilance

As we reflect on these troubling incidents, it is crucial for the community to come together to prioritize safety and vigilance. While law enforcement plays a vital role in apprehending suspects, it is up to each individual to remain aware of their surroundings and take necessary precautions. By working together and staying alert, we can create a safer environment for all residents and visitors to enjoy.”
