Today marks the finalization of an agreement that will see the largest land transfer in the history of Canada 2 million square kilometers of land and Waters will be transferred from the government of Canada to the government of Nunavut to Nunavut it does give power and control as well as accountability to the

Territory for you know what is now Crown Land federally controlled in nunit will then become territorial land and what that allows is for things like mining or oil and gas production or other natural resources uh at that point in time the rules are really set by the territory

Instead of asking Ottawa for permissions

Nunavut signed an agreement with the federal government on Thursday to officially give the territory control over its land and resources.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was is in Iqaluit to sign the agreement which transfers responsibility of crown land and waters to the territory. In 2019, an agreement in principle was signed setting a five year deadline to reach a final deal. #shorts
