Over in the Middle East, the accidental killing of three Israeli hostages by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday is triggering stronger calls — from within Israel — to put an end to their continued siege of Gaza. The murdered hostages were bare-chested and carrying a white flag when they were shot dead as Sean O’Shea reports.

Also, the Canadian government says its keeping an eye on a recent Chinese investment in a struggling Australian firm that owns Canada’s only operating rare earths mine. The minerals are essential to the “green” economy. As Heidi Petracek explains, some industry insiders want Ottawa to take more assertive action to keep China away from domestic resources.
