Okay back in this Wednesday let’s get a holiday travel update with our travel expert Marty Firestone who joins us now Marty good morning to you and this of course is always one of the busiest travel periods of the year so first up uh how are things looking when it comes
To both bookings and prices interesting in spite of the economy mortgage renewals inflation US dollar to Canadian Dollar it’s very active than people are traveling so at this point a travel consultant somebody that can help you because there is not a lot left out there inventory is short
And you have to be a little flexible so maybe getting someone who can advise you how to get to those sundestinations because they are available there is still room there that’s the thing you want to be doing right now okay all right so um if you haven’t booked yet
And you still want to there is still there are still options typically there’s a rule of thumb you should be booked one month in advance at this point you’ve got to hope for a last minute sale I don’t think that’s going to happen so again best thing would be
To see what’s out there again Ask and find out if there’s a way to get to that destination I’ll be it not the direct route it may have to be with a little bit of flexibility but I think there’s still time to get there with yourself and
Family all right uh Marty it has been a tough year when it comes to uh Canada’s airports uh what’s the latest there do you believe they’re ready to handle the influx of holiday Travelers I do I think that the biggest problem of course last year was Staffing so I think that they
Have uh staffed up right now to have more people they also have a pool of people to call upon should there be an issue such as weather conditions or things like that so I think they’re very much in tune with what they need to do Nexus also a great thing for people to
Have and with the trusted traveler program if you are traveling with a person with Nexus you can depart much easier and more importantly you can arrive much easier and quicker than ever before Marty as you know lost luggage has been an ongoing problem and Air Canada just announced a new baggage
Tracking system can you tell us more about it yeah so interesting nothing new from a technology standpoint Air Canada was always able to track your bag at five different sort of uh ports with respect to your barcode however now they’re going to share that info with
You so you can now find out if your bag did in fact get on the plane but here’s the two key points no longer will you now wait for your bag at the carousel cuz you’ll either know it’s there or it’s not there and bigger than that
You’re not going to wait in an hour lineup to then make a claim with Air Canada this is all going to be done very quickly they’re going to say your bag didn’t make it here’s the claim information and go claim so this is really positive things all right that
Obviously will also help with the congestion in airports as well you would think exactly okay uh flu season of course officially underway and while Co also remains a concern we wanted to ask you Marty this morning what is the best advice when it comes to trying to stay
Healthy for those that that are uh traveling uh whether you’re in a congested airport or uh you know in the fuselage of an airplane breathing everybody’s recycled air I I think we’re back to the masks quite frankly and I guess that’s a safe way to hopefully protect yourself plus get all three
Shots the RSV the flu and the co shots so not much more you can do than that but definitely Mas on the plane or in the terminal may be the answer at this point Marty we said we’ talk about this at the top of the show and that is the
Cancel so threeyear cruise that people had signed up for and then it was canceled last minute one traveler saying they sold their house to afford the $500,000 plus trip what more can you tell us about that and if those passengers have any recourse yeah in theory this this sounded really interesting one small
Problem they didn’t have a ship and and to me this is shocking that they went out and marketed people sold houses or rented them for 3 years and then find out that in fact the company never acquired a ship that was going to take them on this threeyear Cruise so that’s
A problem and and the person who sold their house to go on it well I can’t figure that out but will they get any recourse to their monies I don’t think so even the best cancellation Insurance in the world would probably not pay out on this because the company really was
Not whole it did not have a ship that they were even advertising to take people on all right and looking ahead to 20124 Marty let’s just stay with cruise ships because the world’s largest cruise ship is set to take sale in January here’s a look at it right here what do we know
About the icon of the seas oh my goodness it’s huge January 2024 it’s leaving Florida it’s now heading back now after doing some testing this is 20 stories 20 floors 20 decks whatever you want it’s a little city it’s going to have 7500 passengers over 2500 uh Crew
That’s 10,000 people it is really going to be what’s some people who are negative are saying is is a floating petri dish others are saying it’s going to be a great experience whatever it is it is the largest cruise ship ever ever in the world wow amazing Marty we’re
