Argentina elected right-wing libertarian Javier Milei as its new president on Sunday, rolling the dice on a political outsider with libertarian views to fix an economy battered by triple-digit inflation, a looming recession and rising poverty.

Milei, who rode a wave of voter anger with the political mainstream, won by a wider-than-expected margin. He landed some 56 per cent of the vote versus just over 44 per cent for his rival, Peronist Economy Minister Sergio Massa, who conceded.

Milei is pledging “economic shock therapy”. His plans include shutting the central bank, ditching the peso, and slashing spending, potentially painful reforms that resonated with voters angry at the economic malaise.

Milei’s challenges are enormous. He will have to deal with the empty coffers of the government and central bank, a creaking $44 billion debt program with the International Monetary Fund, inflation nearing 150 per cent and a dizzying array of capital controls.

  1. Argentina ?? has been a BRI debt-trap friend of China ?? for a long time. How are things going for that country?
    – Western Liberal Democracies which include Asian countries such as South Korea, Taiwan ??, and Japan, are doing well,
while countries in China's orbit or even China itself are struggling.

  2. My condolences to the millions of Belt and Road victims who fell into a Chinese ?? debt-trap and lost their sovereignty for believing that China was helping them to fulfill their economic ambition
but they were, in fact, deceived by the Chinese?? regime who took advantage of their poverty
so that they can advance their repressive and expansionist regime.

  3. Ive known of this man for 15mins. I watched a clip of the cuts hes going to make
"Ministry of gender and diversity…GONE, Ministry of truth…GONE, ministry of agriculture…GONE, ministry of sustainable development…GONE

  4. Congratulations, Argentina! Let common sense reign. Pardon the fact that JT will not acknowledge your win, in the same manner he's yet to acknowledge Italy's' Meloni. He doesn't speak for Canadians.

  5. The pendulum is finally swinging back to the right. It went so far left due to the push by the elites connected to the WEF and their puppets like Justin Trudeau and many others
