Introducing Canada’s New Humanitarian Pathway for Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan Foreign Nationals
“Canada is taking a bold step in addressing the international migration crisis by offering a new humanitarian pathway for 15,000 people from the Western Hemisphere. The country recognizes the need to provide safe and regular migration pathways to vulnerable individuals displaced due to political, social, and economic instability. Today, we are proud to announce the launch of a dedicated humanitarian pathway to grant permanent residence to Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan foreign nationals,” said The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
Supporting Vulnerable Individuals
The new humanitarian pathway aims to provide safe and legal options for those seeking refuge in Canada. To qualify for the pathway, individuals must have a familial connection to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who agrees to support them as an anchor for one year. Applicants and their families will also receive pre-arrival services and may be eligible for transitional financial assistance upon arrival in Canada.
Efforts to Alleviate Migration Pressures
In addition to the humanitarian pathway, Canada is also welcoming people from the Americas through existing temporary worker programs and refugee labour mobility pathways. These measures are intended to alleviate migration pressures in the Western Hemisphere by providing alternatives to irregular migration through Central America.
