“Mother’s Legacy Lives On After Tragic Loss in Hamas Attack on Israel”

The tragic loss of Vivian Silver in the recent Hamas attack on Israel has left her family and supporters heartbroken. Despite the pain, her son Yonatan Zeigen finds solace in the profound impact his mother made on the world.

A Legacy of Peace and Equality

Vivian Silver, a Canadian native, dedicated her life to fighting for peace and equality in Israel. Leaving her home in Winnipeg over 50 years ago, she settled in Kibbutz Be’eri on the edge of the Gaza Strip. There, she tirelessly worked on peace initiatives and volunteered to drive Palestinian patients and their families from Gaza to Israeli hospitals for medical care. She co-founded Women Wage Peace, a group advocating for diplomatic negotiation, representation of women, and an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Yonatan Zeigen, her son, spoke passionately about his mother’s legacy, emphasizing that her commitment to peace and justice will be her lasting impact on the world. He shared, “She would always see peace as the only viable option, because the only way for people to have safe lives is through reconciliation.”

A Call for Peace and Understanding

The attack in Israel took the lives of roughly 1,200 people and sparked a war that resulted in over 11,470 Palestinian deaths. Despite the tragedy, Yonatan Zeigen remains hopeful for a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is even more convinced of the need for peace and the end to human suffering, echoing his mother’s life work and message.

A Legacy Remembered

As Yonatan Zeigen mourns the loss of his mother, he remembers her as a “wonderful” person, mother, and grandmother. He cherishes the deep, thoughtful, and empathetic attributes that she embodied.

Vivian Silver’s legacy will continue to inspire people around the world to work towards peace and reconciliation. Her passion for justice and equality has left an indelible mark on the world, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who seek a better future for all.
