Amidst escalating tensions in Gaza, Israel’s military has announced on Wednesday that it is conducting what the IDF called a “precise and targeted” operation against Hamas in al-Shifa hospital.
According to Sabrina Singh, U.S. Defence Department spokesperson, Hamas and PIJ members are using tunnels underneath hospitals to operate a command-and-control center from al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. “They have weapons stored there and are prepared to respond to an Israeli military operation against the facility,” she said.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said the Israeli war in Gaza amounts to a “war on hospitals” after IDF troops raided Gaza’s biggest hospital.
Meanwhile, the director of Doctors without Borders’ Health Monitoring Program in Amman described the escalation in Gaza as “the most intensified targeting of health facilities that we ever witnessed.”
Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, emphasized that hospitals should not be used as shields by Hamas. Griffiths expressed his concern on social media platform X, stating, “Hospitals are not battlegrounds.”

The entire free world must step back and rethink our relaitionship with the government of israel. Until we do, we are accomplices in the government of israel's oppression of Palestinians ongoing for generations.
Hamas will gladly hide behind vulnerable Palestinian civilians during a firefight in a hospital so that they can then blame Israel, but the responsibility is on the IDF to minimize civilian casualties? Give me a break.
Since the occupation army attack on al-Shifa hospital started the government of Gaza as well as the hospital director pleaded repeatedly that international observers/ investigators come to the hospital and look for the claimed command and control node that Israel claims to be there in the hospital to spare patient, displaced people and staff any harm. However, all these pleas met deaf ears. Now all patients are traumatized, some killed including premature babies, people were blind folded, stripped naked and some detained. Areas in the hospital and expensive equipment destroyed.
In committing and justifying its crimes, israel has a very long track record of saying lies and changing its stories when there are exposed. The killing of US Al Jazeera correspondent, Shireen Abu Akleh is one recent example of which.
Everyone in government and the media knows that Hamas has had its headquarters underneath Al-Shifa Hospital for years. Israel repeatefly told them to evacuate the hospital and offered to take the babies and children to safe, Israeli hospitals and Hamas wouldn't let them go. They WANT their own people slaughtered. They've said it many times.
Hamas started all this, Hamas should be blamed, not Israel.
