APEC 2023: Hundreds of protesters turn out as Biden, Xi meet

94

Not going through go so we’re out here today to stop Ape from happening um because it’s just a bunch of corrupt uh Rich CEOs that are coming out here learning how to exploit from one another right now Biden and Israel are committing a genocide in Gaza we’re seeing you know 11,000 CH people

Murdered 4,500 children they bombed schools hospitals churches mosques they shed even the aid convoys from Egypt it’s you know we were looking at an Israeli defense minister who said we’re fighting Human animals who has who actually implemented a policy of no food no water no fuel in GZA and called it

Explicitly I mean the genocidal intent here is clear and for me as somebody who whose grandparents and great-grandparents were kicked out in 1948 by the Massac that we call Alba this is something that’s been 100 years of war that’s deeply embedded into you know Western thinking and it’s time for

That to end so we’re coming together in a strong show of solidarity with various sectors of society ranging from climate activists uh women’s activists human rights Defenders folks fighting for their National Liberation struggles and labor um to show to the world that the CEO Summit um being hosted by Apex um is

Doing nothing to address the issues that people are facing around the world today in fact they’re trying to pass um one of the most dangerous trade deals that’s going to impact billions of people in the asia-pacific region for corporate leaders they view that region as an area

To expand their Market the way we view it is they’re going to exploit more workers and they’re going to extract more natural resources so it’s going to be dangerous for their land and for the people who have to work in in those regions it’s amazing I think people are coming

Together putting aside whatever differences they may have politically ideologically and coming together for one goal which is to shut down this ministerial meeting the CEO Summit to make sure they can’t sit at the table unless the people can sit at the table and and express their demands

Protesters took to the streets of San Francisco, Calif. on Wednesday, ahead of a meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, obstructing some entrances to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference.

Roughly 150 people gathered at an intersection outside the security zone at the city’s convention center, blocking conference attendees from passing and forming a human chain that diverted some commuters and delegates. Demonstrators used the meeting as a forum for global issues such as the Israel-Hamas conflict, while some critics of Xi showed up to demonstrate against Chinese policies.

Police donned protective helmets and formed a line about 50 feet (15 meters) from a microphone for speeches that criticized APEC and the Biden administration, and urged climate change action and voiced support for Palestinians.

The potential for disruptions around the summit site in downtown San Francisco, portions of which will be shut to vehicles and foot traffic, led the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to designate the meeting a national special security event, putting the U.S. Secret Service in charge of the coordination of policing agencies.

  1. “A bunch of corrupt and rich CEOs”. You’ll be begging one of them for a job in the next five years. These people don’t understand that it’s not when nations are talking that you worry, it’s when they stop.
