“Four people were taken into custody in the City of Kawartha Lakes after a police check revealed the possession of cannabis and two loaded handguns.”

According to the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP, officers found the cannabis during a Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program check at Highway 35 and Killarney Bay Road. Upon further inspection, the officers uncovered two loaded handguns, resulting in the immediate arrest of a 24-year-old man and 22-year-old woman from Lindsay, Ont., as well as a 21-year-old man from Fenelon Falls and a 19-year-old woman from Norwood.

All four individuals faced charges including two counts each of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, and occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited device or ammunition. Additionally, they also faced one count each of unauthorized possession of weapon and possession of a firearm knowing a serial number has been tampered with. Furthermore, the Lindsay man was charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
