“The NDP Stands in Solidarity with the 2SLGBTQI+ Community”
This week, the New Democratic Party (NDP) is standing in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQI+ community to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of two-spirit, trans, and gender diverse Canadians to our society.
Trans Voices Must Be Heard
Now more than ever, it is crucial that we listen to trans voices and work towards creating a Canada that is free of harassment and discrimination. We must be staunch defenders against policies and movements that undermine and harm trans rights and people’s safety, and instead, we need to unite in the fight for trans visibility.
Challenges Faced by the Community
The rising tide of violence directed at 2SLGBTQIA+ people, threats to the safety and autonomy of kids across Canada by conservative premiers, and the gaps in gender affirming care are significant challenges faced by the community. They highlight the need for a stronger government stance in protecting Canadians and addressing these pressing issues.
A Call for Action
As Canadians, we take pride in our commitments to inclusion and diversity. However, when it comes to trans visibility and rights, Canada is falling behind. On this Transgender Awareness Week, the NDP is calling on the government to take a firm stand against hatred directed at two-spirit, trans, and gender diverse Canadians. Additionally, there is a need for better funding for healthcare and support systems for trans individuals.
In conclusion,
It is imperative for all Canadians to come together in support of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. This solidarity should be reflected not only in words but also in actions, by promoting visibility, advocating for rights, and providing essential resources and support. It is time for the government to prioritize the welfare and well-being of the trans community, and for all of us to work towards building a truly inclusive and accepting society.”
