Ontario greenbelt scandal: Dramatic week at Queen’s Park has some pondering Ford’s future

137

After three turbulent weeks the Greenbelt Scandal has seized the Ford government’s complete attention as the premier’s office continues to respond to investigations and questions and political Watchers believe the issue will continue to Hound the government well because it’s the only question that they get asked I mean over and over and

Over again when this stuff tends to start rolling it rolls downhill and builds up momentum so uh it’s going to be a difficult one for them I think according to ipsos pollster Daryl Bricker the issue of government ethics crosses the political Spectrum something that brings together the left and right

Is questions of corruption and Scandals like this so yeah it’s a difficult issue for them the reports from both the auditor general and integrity commissioner have only raised more questions now Ontario Liberals are calling on the premier to green light a green belt investigation run by the Ontario legislature to begin the process

Of interviewing those involved and to request that all pertinent documents be provided to that committee we are asking the premier to waive all cabinet privilege as it relates to this 8.3 billion dollar scheme the likelihood of that happening is quite low the government has already told the Integrity commissioner that it is not

Waiving its right to keep cabinet records confidential but political observers say there might be another reason 10 years ago when the Ontario liberals were embroiled in the gas plant Scandal a committee investigation eventually led to Premier Dalton McGinty’s resignation there was an environment that was created that made

It difficult for him to continue so you know he left but you know usually any type of inquiry like this parliamentary types of inquiries never go well for the government still political critics aren’t backing down saying past inquiries like Walkerton and ipperwash took years you know to get to the bottom

Of this it’s going to take time but it would also take government cooperation to launch an investigation into itself at Queen’s Park Colin Demello Global News

It has been a dramatic week of Greenbelt developments at Queen’s Park in Toronto, and the saga is likely far from over.

According to Ipsos pollster Darrell Bricker, the issue of government ethics crosses the political spectrum, and the reports from both the auditor general and integrity commissioner have only raised more questions.

Now the Ontario Liberals are calling on Premier Doug Ford to greenlight a greenbelt investigation run by the Ontario legislature.

The likelihood of that happening is quite low, and the government has already told the integrity commissioner that it is not waiving its right to keep cabinet records confidential. Global’s Colin D’Mello has more on what might lie ahead for the premier’s future.

  1. So Doug Ford wants to build 1.5 million homes just like Xi Jinping. And one of his land developers wanted to flip the greenbelt land he got over to a private company. Doug said no to his buddy. Doug said he must get the shovel in the ground and build homes for the people. Sounds a bit like communism where one man makes all the decisions.

  2. How have they not improved this process since the Liberal’s gas scandal??? We are seeing more corruption like this from our government but don’t have an effective way of investigating and addressing government corruption??????? Go forward with investigation and let Ford resign, he has only harmed Ontario since being named Premier

  3. Ford Needs to Resign.. No More Excuses Doug Ford is the Premier, he was Friends with these Developers, they went to Family Functions they Attended the Wedding of Ford's Daughter, and sat at the Family table , Who Built the 8 Million Dollar Cottage Doug Ford has? Who Benefited from the Sale of the Greenbelt, besides the Developers? Doug Ford, that's who If Anyone Goes Down For This Corruption It Needs to be Doug Ford. The Buck Stops at his desk, and he can't say he didn't know, because that's a Filthy Lie… Ford Violated Ethics Rules, Doug Ford Corrupted the system to REAP the Rewards. RESIGN DOUG FORD…

  4. He's been caught, everybody knows he's lying. It would be insane to let him get away with it right in front of us all. It's imperative that the criminal developers head to prison as well. Reverse the deal immediately.

  5. With all the land available in Ontario for housing why doesn’t the government use that instead. The housing should be spread throughout the province. Why not a 100,000 houses along the route to the Ring of Fire? They don’t all have to be in the GTA. Start something new Ford, be innovative not just run of the mill.

  6. What's happening with the RCMP investigation into the corruption and collusion by Ontario politicians, bureaucrats, and profiteering developers?

Is Global News just going to ask Doug Ford what he's not going to do? It's too bad Global News hasn't a shred of ethics to investigate this scandal past Doug Ford's comments. Over $8 billion in profits, and no accountability? No resignations, no arrests? One guy quit his job?
